Design Thinking: Ideas to Action
HBS Online does not use race, gender, ethnicity, or any protected class as criterion for admissions for any HBS Online program. For the Input and Experiments courses, you’ll need to remember a few things from Algebra II, like how to use logarithms and what a mean and median are. No coding from scratch is required, but you will need to copy & paste analyses using the R language. You can use a computer to calculate, but you’ll need to know what to tell it. With its moving sidewalks and undulating glass canopy, the setting for Milan’s Salone del Mobile—the Fiera Milano Rho fairground on the city’s outskirts—has a space-age atmosphere that feels cinematic. So it’s fitting that a bona fide screen legend—director David Lynch of Blue Velvet and Twin Peaks fame—has designed the starring project at this year’s Salone.
Experiencing Design: Deepening Your Design Thinking Practice
For IDEO founder David Kelley, creative confidence is the belief that everyone is creative, and that creativity isn’t the ability to draw or compose or sculpt, but a way of understanding the world. To think like a designer requires dreaming up wild ideas, taking time to tinker and test, and being willing to fail early and often. The designer's mindset embraces empathy, optimism, iteration, creativity, and ambiguity.
User Experience

It focuses on core UX principles like research, experimentation and iteration. No coding is required, as projects deal with UX rather than UI challenges. I chose UCLA Extension because of the great reputation the program has and the caliber of graduates they produce. I was also impressed to know that each and every instructor [is] a working designer with great accomplishments.

Design Thinking and Innovation from Harvard Business School (HBS) Online will teach you how to leverage fundamental design thinking principles and innovative problem-solving tools to address business challenges. We also look at several stories from different organizations that used design thinking to uncover compelling solutions. This approach is an important tool for quickly honing in on promising product ideas - and discarding less promising ones. Sometimes, creative concepts can get stuck in the boardroom or fall victim to slow-moving intra-organizational processes and never go anywhere.
This includes approaches such as creative conversation around ongoing project work, peer feedback, individual tutor feedback, interim submissions etc. The focus of the module is developing confidence in an awareness and practical application of prototyping techniques appropriate for different stages of the design process. You will graduate from the programme with a portfolio of work that demonstrates your own creativity, process and skillset, culminating in a final-year project tailored to the pathway you want to take into the profession.
